Embroidery Fashion. Yay or Nay

military inspired baroque coats

Embroidered clothes belonged to the past, you know, a thing meant for the old world war era folks. But now, in 2020, embroidery is back in style. You can now, for instance, wear your embroidered long coat for winter and fall. So, don’t think embroidered coats are a thing for the old (hey, we love them), because now, even A-list fashion celebrities are rocking them on runways.

What’s the history of embroidery in fashion?

For us to appreciate embroidery in modern fashion, we need to understand its origins. Dating back to 30,000 BC, archaeological embroidery remains of decorated and immensely hand-stitched clothing, hat and a boot were found.

In Siberia, animal hides with decorated shells drilled onto them were discovered in 5000 B.C.

Chinese history dating back to 3500 B.C. depicts embroidery was done on clothing with pearls, precious stones and silk thread. Embroidery is thought to have originated from The Middle East and The Orient.

how to style embroidered coats

Alice+Olivia came up with a designer Raye Baroque Embroidered Coat which has received endless camera shutters and lights since inception.

This military-inspired baroque coat, for instance, has a stand collar with a concealed front hook giving the wearer powerful-prime-minister vibes. There is something edgy about a stand collar coat

The long sleeves have been elaborately measured, cut and tailored to suit the look a wearer ideals for.

The side pockets make it chic, because women love pockets. The center back pleat and the high-low hem add a quirky tune to it.

How to Style Embroidered Coats

To avoid going overboard, stylistas recommend layering embroidered coats over plain coloured clothes. See how our model wore a black top tucked in black leather pants and black shoes?

You can also layer an embroidery jacket over clothes with similar embroidery. Just as this model wore shorts with the same embroidery as the coat.

Stand Collar Coat

Another way of styling your embroidered coat is by shoulder draping, for those days you leave the house certain the weather will change to hot in the afternoon. Draping coats over your shoulder looks so chic. Make sure as you drape, your inner clothes are of plain colour as well.

When wondering what shoes to wear with your long embroidered coat, you can go with knee-high or 5-inch heels similar to the colour of the inner clothes, for that perfect finishing.

Or if you want to feel sexy, just wear a nude bra and panties underneath the embroidered coat — but just keep it closed.

As you begin loving this embroidery look, remember that embroidery doesn’t have to be this baroque. You can wear embroidered denim pants with a vest.

Heck! There are even embroidered shirts and dresses. So yes, embroidery fashion is super flexible. You can wear embroidered clothes to go shop, watch a movie or even to take your kids to daycare.  Embroidery fashion is not just meant for the runway.
