You know what stands out the most in modern islam architecture? Everything! From the arabesque cladding to pillar-supported horseshoe archs; from the unpretentious timelessness of their spectacular interiors to the opulence in their exterior designs. Everything!

And you know what? Residentials constructed on the basis of islam architecture exhibit an aura of privacy, hospitality and modesty.

‘Life is architecture and architecture is the mirror of life.’ I.M. Pei

Privacy in Islamic Home Designs

A main factor shaping the design of most palaces in islamic environments, privacy is designed on the basis of these parts:

  • Privacy between neighbours’ dwellings.
  • Privacy between females and males.
  • Privacy between members of a family.
  • Privacy of the individual.

A quick look at the exterior of this palatial compound shows a perimeter fence catering to privacy between neighbours’ dwellings.

Hospitality in Islamic Home Design

This is driven by the need to make guests ‘feel at home’ and well entertained. This may explain the huge compound and interior spaces in this private palace.

Modesty in Islamic Home Design

The interiors should be modest enough to provide space for education and religious practices.

Did this principle also inspire Architect Abdulrahman Dieb in designing exquisite palatial villas such as this?

This palace is a clever representation of the client’s needs. Did the client echo his longing for early morning sunrises hence the rooftop? Or is he just into more silence and more light? We’ll never know, unless we analyse this exterior design.

The natural stone cladding adds time-defying beauty to this house while providing thermal insulation and protection from weather elements.

To a spectating eye, the balconies and front porch lend a relaxing imagination while adding a majestic character  to the overall exterior design of the building.

With well manicured grass and shrubs dotting the compound, the landscape was cleverly done to harmonize the urban living with nature.

By day, the stone exterior acts as a canvas for playful interaction of light and shadows. By night, the building’s artificial lighting illuminates the black air, creating an intimate aura in effect.

The indoors are extended to the outdoors by the roof which is also an excellent spot for panoramic views of the sunset.

The exterior arabic carvings add a persian vibe to the palace, echoing the ageless arabic culture handed down from one generation to the next.

The large square and arched windows add a shimmery drama by day owing to the glorious reflection of sunlight to the entrance facade.

With many inspiring architectural designs around, this classic twin villa design by Abdulrahman Dieb makes us appreciate the art in the science of architecture.
